Being Progressive

Being progressive is not about girls wearing short skirts. It’s not about people from different castes/countries falling in love, or getting married. It’s not about adopting ‘western culture’.

It’s about knowing that people have choices, and are free to choose their path. It’s about recognising that we have very little right to judge others on what they wish to do or how they wish to live. It’s about knowing that we rarely get to decide what is right for others.

It is not about girls wearing short skirts. It’s about knowing that its ok if they do. And they can if they want to. And you are no one to say otherwise.

It’s not about people from different countries/castes getting married, it’s about you accepting two happy people (you happen to fall in this category).

It’s not about adopting ‘western culture’. It’s about you knowing that people can adopt whatever culture they wish to.

Being progressive is to know that most people are just like you. They demand the same kind of privacy and respect you would. Being progressive is not out there; It’s in your head.

Suddenly, most choices that others make become none of your business. Just as much as most of the choices you’ve made are none of my business.

Grey

You’re not black and white. You’re grey.

 Are you always honest?
If not, does that make you a liar?

Are you nice to people all the time?
Are you a jerk all the time?

 Do you like people?
You do? All of them?
You don’t? All of them?

Ever done something that was selfish?
Are you selfish?

 Grey.
