Majority wins

Majority wins. That’s what most of the system is based on. That’s how we elect our government.

Quite simple, isn’t it? An easy way to run the world.

There’s just one problem though. The system assumes that the Majority is right.

And the scary part? The majority has been wrong before. Not always, but they have. About the world being flat, discrimination, and definitely the government.

Is there a fix to this? I don’t see an easier way to make the world run. But there’s something you and I can do.

We can listen to the minority. No, I don’t mean agree with them. I just mean, listen. They may be wrong today. And some will continue to be wrong.

But don’t be surprised if you see them as right today.

That’s enough for a majority.

P.S – Right and wrong is a different discussion altogether. But you get the idea.

I don't care

No matter which successful person I talk to, they all seem to say one thing : You’ve got to care, and you’ve got to make a difference.

In all honesty? Everytime I hear that, I can’t stand it.

Why? Because I just don’t care. I don’t. Seriously. I thought I did, but I honestly don’t. At this point, I’m just looking out for myself. Yes, that includes my friends and family, but you get the picture. I keep thinking, ‘Hey, everybody successful says it matters, so start caring!’. I don’t feel it! And it frustrates me. Have any of you felt that way?

I realised something though. We all make a difference, for better or worse.

I don’t do anything unethically. I don’t cheat people. In fact, I need to know that if I talk to a client or a customer or anybody, they’ll get incredible value. Otherwise, I just won’t do it.

That’s caring too, isn’t it? As long as I live up to what I’ve stated above, I technically will make a difference. For the better.

The good news is, most of us will.

 I hope.

Imagine..

Bomb blast in Pune, India. Friends of mine, very close to the incident. I really want to say something, but it's already been said. It's been said long enough. Sometimes I look at the lines below, and I wonder if it's really possible -

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

- John Lennon

And then i think it has to be possible. Because I don't like the alternative, and what we've seen so far. Why is this so hard to do? Wouldn't life just be simpler? Just one of those times I don't know any of the answers. Peace is complicated, people say. So? All I can say is I guess things will start with you and me. I recently went on a small trip to a popular saint's ashram here in India, and here's what I saw :

1. People from different cultures and countries living together as one.
2. The religion is to do good and be good.

It exists.

Here's to you Lennon, You're not the only one.

The mark of a Genius

How do you know when someone’s  a genius?

Roger Bannister broke the 4 minute mile. Thousands after him did the same, just knowing it’s possible.

Albert Einstein ( E equals whatever guy) did plenty with his life. But he created and discovered things that gave many other scientists paths to create more.

Writers are responsible for giving people an experience or shifting their thinking. That goes for artists, comedians, actors and speakers as well.

You know gravity, because of an apple and a man named Newton. And now we have rockets.

The mark of a genius isn’t just in the discovery. It isn’t just in the achievement, or what they do. All of these are important, of course.

It has nothing to do with how talented or smart they are. There are plenty of talented and smart people we don’t call geniuses.

The mark of a genius is in what happens after. In people, and around us.
